10 Rain Songs To Quench Your Heart

10 Rain Songs To Quench Your Heart

On a damp day, I’m sure I’m not the only one who can’t help humming along to the iconic ‘Ek Ladki Bheegi Bhaagi Si’. Rain makes the whole landscape look fresh, green, and glistening. While people huddle under their umbrellas, trying to get to work, the child inside me wants to throw away my rain gear and enjoy the cold, pinpricks of raindrop on my face. Rain has the ability to make all of our lives feel like a Bollywood sequence, doesn’t it? Well, here are a few songs I’m going to be singing along to, while I welcome the much awaited rain with drenched clothes and a smile.

1) Tip Tip Barsa Pani – Mohra

You saw this one coming, didn’t you? No list can be complete without this evergreen and sizzling rain song from the movie Mohra that needs no introduction.

2) Saanso Ko Saanso Mein – Hum Tum

Hum Tum was a refreshing movie which brilliantly used seasons to set the tone of narration. The title song was a perfectly placed track in a dramatic rain sequence that has etched itself in my memory.

3) Dilbara Dilbara – Dhoom

Probably the quirkiest song on the list, this track from Dhoom still is one of my favorite songs shot in rain.

4) Tum Se Hi – Jab We Met

Rain has a unique way of awakening our inner poet and reminding us of heartbreaks and the nostalgia that goes with it. Tum Se Hi from Jab We Met is a masterstroke of lyrical and musical brilliance that has since become the anthem of all heartbroken Aashiqs.

5) Koi Ladki Hai – Dil Toh Pagal Hai

SRK is officially our poster boy for love stories and add a rain sequence to that and voila! Koi Ladki Hai, a popular track from Yash Chopra’s Dil Toh Pagal Hai features our favourite SRK and dhak dhak girl Madhuri Dixit. The track is playful, fun and a treat to the eyes.

6) Ek Ladki Bheegi Bhaagi Si – Chalti Ka Naam Gaadi

Kishore kumar and Madhubala, do we need another reason to like this song? From the film Chalti Ka Naam Gaadi, this song has Madhubala waiting as Kishore Kumar fixes her car while singing this song to woo her. A true testament to the beauty of Indian Cinema.

7) Tum Hi Ho – Aashiqui-2

Arjit Singh’s soulful voice, heavy downpour and Aditya Roy Kapur and Shraddha Kapoor kissing in the rain using a jacket to cover their heads. There couldn’t be a more defining moment in hindi film romance in recent times than the one in Aashiqui-2. The melodious music, the sequence and the actors everything contributed to the magic.

8) Barso Re – Guru

This track sung by Shreya Ghoshal from the film Guru has Aishwarya Rai dancing in the company of rivers, mountains and raining skies in intricate Ghagra cholis. The foot tapping nature of this song and it’s mesmerizing choreography makes it to our ‘Rain Song special’ list. This is exactly how you should welcome the rain, haina?

9) Pyar Hua Ikrar Hua – Shree 420

This song features an iconic screen pair in the form of ‘The Showman’, Raj Kapoor and the resplendent Nargis. Their polka dot, Charlie Chaplin-esque vintage outfits and them sharing an umbrella, singing to each other is a sight we just love to love.

10) Zara Zara Behekta Hai – Rehna Hai Tere Dil Mein

This movie starring the talented R Madhavan and the beautiful Dia Mirza connected with everyone who has ever been in love. And this song just adds to the cinematic brilliance of depicting love and its genuine moments. After listening to this song, we just can’t look at rain the same way again.
